Grey Zone is a group, focusing on facilitating and promoting contemporary art in all forms of public space - real and virtual - taking art onto the front-lines of the social, political and commercial sectors. Grey Zone takes its name from the infinitely variable space between dictatorial-normative structures (whether commercial, political or social) and the masses. During the forty years of the totalitarian Communist regime in Czechoslovakia, the Grey Zone was the name given to unofficial cultural activities that were not part of the dissident movement proper, but neither did they succumb to the moral complacency and apathy of the silent majority.

By designing new interfaces between art and everyday existence, Grey Zone seeks to generate new forms of interactive art projects, networks and investigative art laboratories, confronting contemporary art with the reality of contemporary consumption society, as wells as forming new symbiotic structures between artists and the wider public. Grey Zone strives to design innovative artistic strategies that will place art in the core of society, strengthening its immunity to both normative and authoritarian tendencies of the mainstream and the market’s lowest common denominator.
